Charlie Parker

Day 99
#7 – Charles ‘Charlie’ Parker, Jr. (1920–1955), also known as ‘Yardbird’ and ‘Bird’. American jazz saxophonist and composer. Albums include: The Complete Savoy and Dial Studio Recordings (1944–48), Bird and Diz (with Dizzy Gillespie, 1950) and Charlie Parker with Strings (1995).

His nickname is well known and referenced in many of his recordings so I looked at how best to use this. Parker was considered a highly influential jazz soloist and a leading figure in the development of bebop. He was also considered a master of improvisation. This sense of him being free and breaking away from the set pattern suggested ways of breaking up the letters and when playing around with different typefaces, I noticed the ‘B’ could be split to suggest a bird in flight.
